Err, is there an similarity, with internment in big camps prior to transportation, with something that happened many years ago?

Trump is a knee jerk reactor. He clearly neither researches his proclamations, gives no thought for the consequences, short or long term of his presidential decree's.

Strong reactions to the refugee issue in Europe should lead to more in depth consideration to the problem in hand. The world has to wake up to the consequences of global warming, war and short comings of third world aid.

Don't forget the perils of the insane Open Borders Policy that so many countries, and presumably well-meaning people, seem to espouse.

It's strange how the separation of illegals from their children is supposed to be seen as the fault of their unwilling "host" countries rather than of the illegals who try to smuggle them across borders, wouldn't you say? Perhaps we're looking through the wrong end of the telescope: how about deporting Champagne Socialists, Marxist Agitators, SJWs and the Nowt So Blind Brigade along with the illegals? We could always claim they're Foreign Policy Specialists, since that's what they themselves seem to believe.... Wink

It has been pointed out that there are many more American (USA) kids seperated and detained from their offending parents and there is no fuss. Its really a question of horses for courses and migrants beware.
The answer still lies in removing the desire to risk life and limb to escape homelands.
Perhaps the world needs a few more Gandie's or the like or is that just too simple.

The world needs fewer criminals and corrupt politicians/officials. The problem is that things need to be sorted out urgently but all you hear is how "education" is the answer and that criminals need more and better facilities and opportunities in order to make them see the error of their ways. Unfortunately, such things take a long time to put into effect and criminals at all levels are rather unwilling to trade the grind of honest work (and income tax) for their current easy life-style. We all know the arrogance shown by the toe-rags outside the court having been given a "tough" community service order or a fine that will either never be paid or will come out of some pensioner's handbag tomorrow. The arrogance of the multi-millionaire toe-rags is even more outrageous, even if their apparent immunity does seem to go some way towards justifying it.

Just as you can't make an omelette without breaking eggs, you can't have a world for decent people which has a criminal class in it. Allowing them to blackmail society by essentially paying them to behave normally is too costly, in both time and money, and anyway sets the wrong example.

Wasting billions annually in free board and lodging for scum-bags, who tend to behave badly when inside and who will largely turn up to pleasure Her Majesty not long after being released anyway, doesn't really cut the mustard either. The only thing these "people" understand is when things get more painful, or deadly, than they can stomach.

Unfortunately, Transportation is off the cards these days, so a good old fashioned flogging for a first offence and a cheap-and-cheerful shot in the head (avoiding any spare parts that might be harvestable, of course) for a subsequent one seems to fit the bill pretty well. Cool

There'd be no need for people to seek asylum if their country were clear of criminals, while economic hardship would also be largely eradicated. Making it prosperous would be, to a large extent, then in their hands. If they can't make a go of it that's just too bad.

Of course, that's never going to happen but, since I don't have any children, I don't really give an aerial fornication. If the snowflakes don't want to do what's needed, I wish them much enjoyment of the harvest from their wind-sowing....

Or indeed a Stefan Stambolov fan. Wink

I believe in respecting people's rights - provided they respect mine. If someone chooses to steal, assault/injure/kill others and generally act in anti-social ways then we can spend time and money - usually fruitlessly - on "rehabilitation" or take a firmer approach. The first offence invokes a painful response; if the message doesn't get through then the offender is made to understand that the next offence is guaranteed to be the last they ever commit (Stamboliyski preferred to skip Step 1 but things have, allegedly, progressed since then).

Prison is largely pointless, indeed counter-productive, and, unbelievable as it may sound, I don't believe that we as a society have the right to incarcerate people if we can't protect them while they are inside, and ensure 100% that they don't reoffend once out. Likewise we don't have the right to tax people when we can't protect them in their own homes or on the street. If we want to live in a civilised world, we need to remove those who can't/won't behave in a civilised way; sadly, that involves what some might perceive as uncivilised action in order to remove the weeds and pests so the plants can flourish in the sunshine.

As far as Duterte is concerned, his problem is that criminality and corruption isn't just at street level and, as Stambolov himself found, you need to beware of many people. In essence, however, I'd say that My Mate Rod is on the right track...the squeals coming from the do-gooders are always an indication of that! Wink
