I am very sorry to have to tell you this, but after several months of health problems, Lyn Bolton died earlier today, in hospital in New Zealand. She flew out to be with her family there 2 weeks ago. Ron was there with her.

I know many of her friends will find this news a terrible shock, but Lyn was totally adament that no-one knew how ill she was, to the point of insisting I played it down, even to those she considered close friends. As you will know, when Lyn set her mind to something, she was one strong lady! I was lucky enough to be with her for the last eight days she had in Bulgaria, and rising above her severe pain, she was just as a funny, sharp and lovely as ever.

Knowing that she didn't have long to live, she was worried that she would 'spoil' Christmas for people. If you see a star decoration on your tree or in the street, please join me in thinking of Lyn, who shone like a star, with all our love.

I can pass any messages on to Ron and the family if you either post them here or pm me.

I didn't know her but enjoyed her posts - Oddly enough I was only thinking yesterday about posting a to ask how she was.
She is now at peace.

Please pass on our condolences to Ron and family. Having heard nothing for a while we thought she was just taking it easy during her recovery.

A prolific and humorous poster when this forum first started, she will be missed by ourselves and the many friends she made online.

It is so sad for me to read this news about Lyn and especially as we lost another expat earlier this year, Stewart.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Lyn, but realise just how determined she must have been as she went out of her way to send me a tub of smoker's toothpaste at a time when she must have been ill and in pain.

No doubt that she will be sorely missed.

Please pass on our condolences to Ron and thankful memories of Lyn for making our lives happier whilst she was alive.

RIP.

We are very saddened by her passing having first met her and Ron in the UK during Bulgarian lessons eight years ago. It was typical of Lyn that she didn't want her illness generally known and it was only very recently that she was aware that recovery was unlikely but she still insisted that there be 'no fuss'. Our thoughts are with Ron and her family and we shall miss a good friend, just pleased we had the chance to say goodbye a couple of week back.

I will pass the messages on. In the days before she was able to get on the plane to New Zealand she was phoning her friends, listening to their problems and chatting, and still not saying how ill she really was. It was heartbreaking. It was hard not to say here about this and I know how bad people will feel about not being able to say goodbye, but she wouldn't even let me say that at the airport, just a 'see you'......, and I had to respect her wishes.

Briefly, about seven weeks after the operation to remove a lung, (at which point the doctors thought they had dealt with the problem) Lyn was getting worse, not better. A number of small aggressive tumours were found with a scan a little later, and she died a month after that. Most of that last time was spent organising her trip back to her family, and she was able to visit with both her sons and with her brother.
Lyn and Ron were our closest friends here, both personally and geographically, we (with Jake and his wife) all came here at the same time to look for property, and our Bulgarian adventure was a shared one. I am terribly sad that she had so little time to enjoy it. and I will miss her dreadfully.

I'm saddened to hear this news. Lyn and I didn't always see eye-to-eye here and elsewhere (nothing new there) but she always talked sense and was willing to share her humour and knowledge. She'll certainly be missed.

I've just been told of this horrible news and am so sorry to hear that the operation wasn't a success in the end.

I'm honoured to say that we met Lyn in 2005 at a local party, and kept in touch all these years, but never met again.Lyn was a fantastic lady, full of fighting spirit in every sense of the word.

This is so sad, please pass on our condolences to Ron and family. There's a new bright shining star in the sky tonight.

R.I.P Lyn

Nikki and Darren

Lyn was one of the best - and certainly the funniest - I ever met. I'll miss her so much.

There's another star in the sky. Crying or Very sad
I haven't been in BG but was made aware of the situation by the team in the Blagoevgrad, thought it was best not to comment.
Lyn & Ron were a good couple so all our thoughts are with Ron & the family at this difficult time. It goes without saying that if any assistance is needed to drop us a line.
Lyn was a genuinely lovely lady who it was my pleasure to know. RIP Lyn angel11
