I have to say that he was never my cup of tea but am I the only one who finds this current habit of crucifying people for "offences" going back decades completely ridiculous?

Being antique enough to remember The Good Old Days, even if I can't recall why I just came down to the kitchen or what my phone is doing in the freezer, I'm familiar just what - and who - a lot of people were prepared to do to "advance their careers" and I don't suppose that much has changed over the past decades. There's just too many folk who want to think of themselves as "victims" rather than taking responsibility for what they were at least complicit in - and I suppose that a bit of Schadenfreude (and a healthy dollop of compo) will help them to feel better about themselves while they conveniently "remember" every detail about what was done to them and forget what they did, and wanted, in return....

Are you saying some of these people may not have had a career had they not (thank you Seedy) innocently stepped into said persons hotel room /bedroom for an "interview"?

I mean every interview i ever had entailed me going into the prospective bosses bedroom and wear a swimsuit for the interview.

I assume you meant "had they not innocently stepped... "? Wink

I too distinctly remember being asked to wear a very fetching "itsy-bitsy, teeny-weeny, yellow polka-dot bikini" for every first interview I had back in the day - on the understanding that the second interview, should the initial one not have been enough to induce nausea in all concerned, would involve the removal of said swimming attire and some vigorous "Swedish PT exercises".... Cool

Keith 'Cheggers' Chegwin died too yesterday and jokes on the Internet are suggesting he died before the sexual harassment claims started.

I feel that the blame for all these accusations can be laid squarely on the rise of the internet and primarily Facebook. Even the gutter press would have aired some caution but now that fake news is game for everyone we can expect all sorts of balderdash mixed in with just some glimmer of truth.

Along with Cliff's comments, in my opinion the Police are also to blame. When they have received an accusation against someone in the public eye, they have been known to go round asking other people if they have been abused by that person.
The one that really sticks in my mind is Jimmy Tarbuck. Someone accused him of abuse when he was presenting Top of the Pops. Instead of the Police finding out he never presented Top of the Pops, five more people jumped on the bandwagon, he was arrested and on bail for almost a year until being released from bail without charges being brought.
I would not put it past some of the people accused but I think bringing historic sexual abuse claims is very dodgy. Also, some of the accusations are such trivial things we would not have regarded it as sexual abuse years ago.

There was a time when a little sexual banter was what made the world go round and wearing a set of fives across the cheek was a firm reprimand for being out of order.
So what is it. Are the girls too shy, are they afraid of being charged with assault or is this just a route to financial reward.
I'm glad I was young 50 years ago and not in 2018.

I certainly don't think the girls are too shy, just look at the way some of them dress these days. I also don't think they are afraid of being charged with assault. For some it is a route to financial reward. Also it seems you can't banter with people these days, especially the young seem to be too serious for some reason.
