Does anybody know, if PayPal is operating in BG? Or does BG have another payment system, based on a trust, like PayPal?

Paypal works fine for me here in Bulgaria and I have not had any problems with it so far, touch wood.

I am finding it very useful at the moment as I took Seedy's advice and am in the process of using a ''forwarding agent'' where I can now have goods delivered to their central London address and shipped over to Burgas at a very reasonable cost.

Because some of these UK suppliers do not make International Deliveries or even cater for non-UK delivery post codes on their on-line shopping, I found that if I enter the ''Forwarder's Address'' as both Billing and Delivery address that Paypal will deal with that whereas, if I tried to pay with my Bulgarian Bank Debit Card, then it wouldn't work.

Hope that answers your question with a little extra thrown in. Wink

Very useful MW, I've been trying to set up a similar system for UK mail to be directed to a form of POBox with a commercial bureaux that would then, either forward material or secure it until my next UK visit.

I've reduced most correspondence to the bare minimum by transferring tasks online, but there are inevitably some e.g. annual interest statement from UK bank that has to be delivered by snail mail.

Thanks to your reply and help! Merci!

I tried to set up PP with a BG bank account, but it doesn`t work. Can not go forward, or finish the process, all stopped. The money, they sent to the account with the number you need to verify, never arrived....

Sounds like, PP doesn`t like BG bank accounts.

Yes, we have something called ePay.bg Details here:- https://www.epay.bg/en/

I use it to pay almost all my bills. Like PayPal you have an online 'wallet' from which you can make and receive payments online and upload money to the 'wallet' from the linked bank account. For payments there is a small commission charge of 0.6% which is charged when you upload money to the 'wallet'. Once you have linked a bank card to it, you can also make payments direct from the linked bank account for the same commission charge.

Almost exactly like Paypal - but not widely known or accepted outside BG, I think. Paypal is also not so widely accepted in BG as in the UK and other countries.

(Later) Re: your having tried to set up a Paypal account with a BG bank account, I think the problem is more that Paypal doesn't let you set up an account with an address in one country using an account from another. Each country most likely has different and possibly conflicting domestic financial regulations, hence the no-go for you.

I use a Paypal account in BG which I set up from Russia BUT it has a UK address AND a UK bank account. Just as an aside, I believe that Paypal also routinely logs from which part of the world the account is accessed, assuming you aren't using a VPN (which gives you a fake global location), which, unsurprisingly, is also frowned upon by Paypal and they may block the account should they detect a VPN is being used.

My Paypal account was set up here in Bulgaria as far back as 2009 and has always worked with a Bulgarian Billing and Delivery address from a Bulgarian issued Bank Debit Card.

Perhaps (Anna) you need to contact PP and explain your dilemma.

I'm suspecting, rightly or wrongly, that you are Russian? You're trying to set this PP account up as a resident in Bulgaria with a Bulgarian Credit/Debit Card registered to your address here in Bulgaria?

@Xanthos - touch wood, my mail from the UK gets here by normal post to my village post office, but IF anything went missing, I wouldn't care as there are no cheques enclosed - now, that is a lie, I received quiet favourable cheques from Her Majesty's Paymaster for my Army Pension before the direct debit kicked in. Hi Anna!

I've received your PM but when I tried to reply I got a message saying that I was permanently blocked from the website. I've contacted MOD about it and will reply in detail when the problem is sorted out.

Not to do with Bulgaria but it is to do with Paypal, so thought I would put it here.
I have just received an email from Paypal, it is in my inbox, not even in the junk mail.
I don't have an account with them and never paid anything through them.
I have not opened it but with my email, you can see part of it before opening it. This has a Case ID number etc.
Normally I just delete anything I know for certain is junk but I am not sure what to do about this.

Forward the email to spoof@paypal.com to advise them of probable scam, or if you do not have an account, send to your trash.

It's just a Phishing Scam, ZZ: if you use an email client that has a "Report" function (such as Hotmail, for example, where you'll find it under "More Junk Commands") then use that to advise your email provider - although they'll probably have had literally millions of such notifications already, otherwise just delete it and make a mental note to always be on the qui vive for such things...
