There are various lounges at the airports which you have to pay to use.

Thanks for that Dannia......had a look and the lounge I,d be looking to use......at International departures only opens from 4am through to 10 pm which certainly woould,he suit me. Airport opening times are not available. Strange that airport waiting areas here seem to close down.

Beware, anyone can still be caught by unscrupulous taxi drivers! I am so cross with myself because after all my advice I still got caught!

I wanted to have a taxi to a hotel near the airport from the coach station and went to the taxi info place. No-one there but hovering nearby was a presentable guy wearing OK T-shirt. Being tired my wits were awol and he proceeded to guide me across the official lines of taxis to a superior looking cab.

On entering I noticed there was no ID displayed and the tariff looked high but being exhausted I went ahead. Besides it was too late to exit although I had done this before! Old age I guess!!!!

I kept an eye on the meter which seemed okay until we neared the airport hotel when it suddenly shot up 10levs! The end bill was 24.95 which I knew was ridiculous as it has never been more than 15 levs.

I challenged him with my limited Bulgarian and refused to pay but settled for 20 levs. I was really really angry with myself about this but it shows how easily one can be fooled into bad choices however long you have lived in the country. Embarassed Rolling Eyes

Well, first of all, Welcome Back and I hope you enjoy your time with your Husband in your village. Just put the Taxi lark down to experience as they're notorious the World over and I have even had ''Official Taxis'' taking me via the scenic route when I knew the correct shorter, cheaper, direct route, but went with the flow. A bit off topic, but on Sunday I took a taxi from Sofia station to the Dunav hotel. When we got there, the meter showed L42, which is almost 5 times the price.

I pretended to take a photo of his numberplate, and of him and said I was going to telephone the police. He quickly understood the error of his ways.

What's the problem, Mr P? If taxis concentrate on ripping off gullible out-of-towners then we locals can ride in peace... Cool

Incidentally you might want to download the Taxistar app: no more rip-offs, you can specify what vehicle (and even driver) you want and can even pay by card Smile

Hi to all,
I just purchased my ticket for Bus Journey from Veliko Tarnovo Bus Station to Sofia Airport,
The lady at the Kiosk informs me they will stop first at the Airport before going on to the central bus station. This is with Etap Bus company for 22 Leva single fare.
So a much better proposition than Biomet who drive past the Airport proceeding straight on to the central Bus Station.
Hope this info is helpful to someone

Have you done the trip yet and, if you have, how did it go?

Hi Seedy,
I have not done the trip yet, I was buying ticket in advance.
I drove my car over here in July and have never taken a long distance bus here in Bulgaria before.
I will be going back to the U.K. for winter returning to Bulgaria at the end of March.
I will let you know how my trip goes back to Luton early next month.

It's a great service which has been operating for at least three years - originally only three services per day stopped at terminal two, but this has now been increased and I believe most, if not all, now stop outside the departure entrance to the airport, within easy reach of luggage trolleys.
I'm not sure, though, if they also stop at terminal one.

There's always the free transfer bus that runs between the two terminals... Wink
