Has anybody had any experience of using house insurance here. Positive and negative ones. A lot of pictures have spoken to reckon they make excuses and don't pay up, but its always here say and not personal experience. What do you think? Worth it or not?

Do you still have a notional address in the UK? That's a serious question... Wink

In 7 years I have not purchased house insurance and both cars are only 3rd party insured. The savings on car insurance exceed the current value of either one of the cars so that's a plus. As for house insurance, reading between the lines, I suspect it is probably a waste of time and money. At the end of the day don't listen to anyone, do what you are comfortable with, its a bit of a gamble either way.

We have kasko on both our - bought from new - cars; worth it for us, at least for the first 5 or 6 years.

We wouldn't be without house insurance and it's not particularly expensive. They coughed up several grand without a peep when our (unoccupied) house was burgled a few years ago and even pointed out things we'd forgotten to include on the claim. There's absolutely no reason to have house insurance, of course - as long as you don't get burgled, the house doesn't fall down, there isn't an earthquake, you don't have a fire, you don't get a third-party claim against you, etc, etc.....and as long as you can pay to rebuild/replace what is damaged/stolen.

You pays your money (or not Wink ) and you takes your choice...Cool

Without knowing anything about Bulgarian insurance, I can only go with what I know in England . If my house burnt down I’d be ruined . Why try to save a few hundred for something so very. Very important? Hopefully you’ll never need it, but if you do need it and you haven’t got it , then it it could be life changing. Just pay it .

While it lasts (ie post-Brexit who knows?) the best insurance company I've come across for cover here is Intasure.

I'm not sure if tonytg806 lives in BG full-time, but I guess from the way he says 'here' he may do...

If so, does this condition of non-full-time residence still apply to Intasure?

I had house buildings insurance with a Bulgarian company (Allianz, I think) for 3 years before we moved here full-time. Never made a claim and since then I've not bothered. In the worst scenario, if I was unlucky enough to have our house burn down , I am lucky enough to have enough money to either repair/rebuild it, or to buy another one...

Yes and yes......BUT... As the insurance companies themselves will be the first to tell you, usually after you've tried to claim: you need to read and understand the small-print - luckily, that cuts both ways Wink

I wish I were in a position to just shrug my shoulders if my gaff were to burn down but then I guess you don't live in Sofia! Very Happy

Quite right I don't, although I do have a modest pied-à-terre in the centre of Sofia for spending the odd night when it becomes just too boring watching the country leaves fall.... Laughing

If only that were true! I'm so busy that I have no idea how I ever found time to fit work into my life - I suppose it was Hobson's Choice with so many layabouts "on't Social" needing my support in Blighty...

Talking of which, has anyone heard owt from Our Henry lately? Wink
