Photo card for renewal and change of address and district required....
Completed necessary forms, supplied required docs and paid fees.
Today went to collect new card. One more form and photocopy supplied.
We were issued with on of the white cards, no address, no photo!
Queried this, and was informed that , for us, the only obligatory residence card is the white one!
We had the option of paying for a replacement (for the white one) which would have a photo, address etc, but it was again stressed it was not compulsory!
We opted for the photo card, (pay and wait 1 month, pay double if faster( 2 days).
The white cards are valid until 04/04/2020.
Are they anticipating something?

Regards

Always been that way in our municipality, it's normal.

I am in the Process of applying for my first, Long stay permit,
For Veliko Tarnovo its at the KAT office not the Police Station as i was led to believe.
I have 2 Passports U.k. and Irish Republic, A bank account with sufficient funds, EHIC card issued in U.k. and rental contract for 12 months on my Flat.
A printer/scanner that i bought from U.K with my P.C.
And most importantly endless amounts of time and patience.
Only thing holding me up now is getting the owner of the property to notarized declaration, Which to be fair is mentioned on the Ministry of Interior website.
Once i do this and get the card, I have the joy of re registering my car.
Regards Milton

Milton, having experienced KAT in VT on a few occasions, you shouldn't need endless amounts of time and patience for your permit. However, you will probably need it in bucket loads when registering the car. I am fairly patient but I find KAT in VT a nightmare when registering a car.

It you go to the insurance office opposite the entrance to KAT they will do the registration for you, for a fee of 50 leva.

No problem. If you do decide to do it yourself, however, I would take up your Bulgarian friend's offer and have him go with you; although things are much, much easier than they were it is best to have a Bulgarian speaker with you in case there are any problems.
If you do need a Bulgarian helper you could phone Dimitar on 087 776 7200. His charges are reasonable and he helps many British people with many things.
Feel free to mention my name

Me too regarding the paperwork etc but it's still a day out of your life because that's the way it is, over the years I have hade the pleasure of a 'KAT day' five times, always with a bulgarian friend, it doesn't get better. I have this theory that there are so many old cars on the road because people can't face the trauma of registering another one. Laughing

You could be right there Jake. However, the car we arrived here in didn't take a day out of our lives, it took two days. Some years later we bought a brand new car, someone from the dealership came with us to KAT and even they don't get preferential treatment. Like I said in my earlier post, it's a nightmare. Would be interesting to know if anyone actually likes going to KAT. Laughing

Surprisingly given the number of people always waiting there, the main KAT office in Sofia is amazingly quick and efficient. We haven't been there in the last couple of years though: we bought two new cars in that period and the dealers registered them for us - all we had to do both times was jump in and drive off... Smile
