Apparently true: Many years ago a cake mix company had declining sales of their 'everything included' packets of cake mix because housewives were (apparently) feeling guilty that the results were not really home made. The company then changed the contents by omitting the dried egg and requiring the housewife to add a real egg, resulting in sales increasing because by adding a separate real egg it felt like home baking.

Don't know how long they have been stocking it but Lidl are now selling real english back bacon (actually from the UK), and very good it is too. Seems to be a normal stocked item rather than a special promo, 'Dulano' brand.

Don't spread the word about that bacon too widely, Jake, the shelves will be emptied of it in no time - give me a couple of days to fill my freezer!!

Make your own, it's easy and so much better than store bought.

To (mis)quote Mrs Beaton 'first catch your pig'. For the half dozen rashers I might eat in a week Lidl is the current easy option. Do go through spells of home baking bread though.

You and I are Old Skool Dinosaurs, I'm afraid: folk these days want (and feel they're "entitled to") instant gratification without doing anything other than waving a contactless card at a cashier....Lord help them when the Apocalypse (or Putin) arrives Wink
