Well it's just short of a month since we arrived back in England.Apart from me having to make the trip back over to France for the 2 dogs I had to leave, everything is going ok.
The house is still a little upside down, just starting to add a bit of furniture here and there.
Talking about furniture...decided not to get new. There is a hospice furniture outlet not far from us,and you wouldn't believe the quality of the stuff you can buy there.First time we went we bought a 3 seater leather sofa, just a few small marks,a matching electric reclining chair,no marks at all..£120..solid oak coffe table £5..matching tv cabinet,£5..it goes on and on.
New stock arrives every day.
I'm not going into the price of food, because some people get blinded by where they live in to how cheap it is compared with ,shall we say other places.Surfice to say,we are doing ok on that front...even found a trad local butcher who does some cracking meats, and black pudding Smile Smile .
So we are coping very well thanks.
Hope all is well with all in BG.
Not be long before it's back in commie hands,or has it always been Wink Laughing

Nice to have an update from you mestala. Please keep returning with updates on your return to Blighty; particularly interested in how things may have changed since you left!

Yes, nice to hear from you M. What part of the UK are you in? There are loads of bargains in the UK that are not available here, but then, perhaps that is offset by the high council taxes and energy/water suppliers - I couldn't say for sure, but house prices is the main reason I am here amongst many others.

Hope the dogs are doing well, do you walk them all at the same time or in turn?

M, did you go back to the area you came from and how long were you in BG?
As Mod said, it would be interesting to hear what changes if any you have noticed.
I was thinking of going back to the area I came from and where I lived most of my life but without even going over there, I know there has been a change. A lot of new houses have been built since I left and I'm not sure if I would like it there now but I have friends there, so don't know what to do for the best.

Hi All

Well things haven't changed in as much as the traffic is a nightmare, depending on where you're going.
The house tax is always going to be what it is here in uk.As for utilities,we'll not know until the first leccy and gas bills come in.Me being what I am,I don't have the heating on all bloody day like the silly a holes do here,it's no wonder they catch colds and flue etc being couped up where the germs breed.
I'm out every morning at 7ish with Max to walk him round the streets, getting him used to the new enviroment. The others take their turn for a walk.We go out about 3\4 times a day with him.
NHS....I hear you ask.well as you know I had my dice with death in 2012,and since then I've been on Sintrom and a couple of other drugs.I took about a months worth of tabs back with me..[free over here Wink ]...Phoned the local hospital up about having an INR blood test done as I'd not had one done for about 7 weeks.Phoned on Monday, got an appointment on Tuesday morning.Got there, plenty of time. The nurse was only 10mins behind schedule, went in,explained everything, got an instant result there and then..2.2,which we were both happy with..bingo.
Filled form in at local gp clinic to register, just waiting for them to contact me on that one.
We are in NE Derbyshire..not where I'm form,I'm ont tuther side from the White Rose County.
The thing is here, the variety of things you can get is enormous, orderind things online if they are not local, usually here in 1\2 days....makes a big difference.
And contrary to what people say..folk over here do say hello when you pass them on the street, and 99% over shop assistants smile and bid you welcome\farewell..not I'm afraid like many did in BG,glum faces, couldn't care less where something was wrong with a product etc.
Anyway,I'll keep you up to date as and when I go through more experiences.
Steve

I am back in Blighty like Mestala and been here about 4 years now. I am happy but went to an area in East Anglia that I had never been to and knew no-one. I love it and people are very friendly as Mestala said. Its by the sea which I find very calming (except holiday time of course!) I can walk into town along the front and have everything I need within walking distance although I have my bus pass which is wonderful as I can travel quite a long way. One of the advantages of age. Also good rail links to see family although roads are so busy because of lorry traffic to the port.

My only disappointment was losing a lot of money on the sale of my caravan before moving into a comfortable flat. Thats one of the things I didn't ask about when I bought it but thats life.

There is a lot of depressing political news of course and the longer you live here the more you hear. I have learnt a lot about how life works here - it was almost like moving abroad after 25 years away, but personally I am satisfied with my new life here and can still visit my partner in Bulgaria about twice a year. He is happier there and is at present working the winter in Sofia in a big furniture factory. I think the age difference (he is a lot younger than me) meant that we need different lifestyles now. I love being able to see family more often. All in all Britain isn't such a bad place to return to but of course it depends where in the country you end up. Laughing

Hi Starry

Glad you're getting on ok...as far as news is concerned,I haven't watched a tv programme since we got back, never mind the news...no news is good news, don't they say.I see snippets as I flick through the net pages, but there again,I never watched,or very little uk tv whilst in BG.
There is plenty to do instead of laying about in front of a tv,which we haven't got set up by the way. That's the thing, the big difference, there are oodles of places to visit if you are so inclined.
The social scene was a factor,as well as my health for going back, being able to see many old friends etc..we are in reality social creatures, and unbeknowing to me,it was what I missed quite a lot.Probably being in the shop and pub trade for 20yrs made an impact.
Anyway,as usual in winter here,it's raining, but I've been out a few times today and now I'm sat here writing this post to you all.Had to tell er in doors to turn the heating off Laughing ,not cold enough yet Rolling Eyes .

Well done you Mestala. Like you, I only have my heating on at the minimum level suggested for elderly people although I do have it on all day. I go out nearly every day for a walk whatever the weather although here in suffolk we rarely get the worst of anythng around.

I still live as I did in Bulgaria for some things - always have candles around and the kettle filled and I find I only buy things that are absolutely necessary for food and clothes. I am very resistant to all the commercialism here! That maybe due to budget and age but so much seems unnecessary and plunging people into debt.

There is local crime I'm afraid but we had that in our little Bulgarian village. Being elderly has advantages by keeping away from most news because it can be depressing. I have Freesat TV and I can watch programmes we enjoyed on Bulgarian satellite which seems odd. However thats when I miss my partner most because its not the same watching without him!

No complaints on the NHS either although I did have to pay a lot for some minor dentistry and thank goodness I had my bridge done in Bulgaria.

I mustn't get too eulogistic about life here because I still miss my Bulgarian life very much and sometimes wish I was back but realistically, given my age and needs, I know I am better off here. Good luck Mestala with your life and health.

Before anyone argues life is better here etc etc. remember 'wherever I lay my hat' and be happy. Its not a competition.

Well, despite how I may feel inside, I'm also in the "elderly" bracket, at least as regards years - but we still haven't put any heating on this winter, albeit not everyone likes the inside of the house to be as "pleasantly cool" as we do! Very Happy
