I want the franchise for this in Bulgaria! I will retire a multi-millionaire after a few weeks hard work.....
Seriously though, this is wrong. Private companies should never have the right to fine people for profit.

Too late - there is already a "Rubbish Mafia" here....

And they have plenty of connections... Sad

In the UK at the moment, just received a 100 quid fine from NCP. No markings on the road to indicate, I'm kind of guilty but at the same time innocent as no yellow lines. Private firm, how can they enforce fines, so will make it difficult for them.

Singapore had a 'Rubbish Mafia' in the 70's. How ever maddening it cleaned the place up and now its a premier world class city. I doubt that Bulgaria can emulate the success.

Singapore is a characterless shadow of its former glorious self; being a "world class city" nowadays is nothing to be proud of....

Boogie Street? Rolling Eyes

Bugis Street to those of us who lived on the island and weren't Leonard Cohen or some dim-witted National Serviceman... Wink

Well I lived there in the sixties Seedy, it was always called Boogie Street then, even if we did know its real name.

If anyone wants to read the history of Bugis Street there is some information here.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bugis,_Singapore

Actually I think Leonard Cohen had it just about right as well.

Without wanting to give offence, it was indeed "Boogie" to the hoi-polloi but the rest of us wouldn't have been caught dead using the misnomer... Wink

I will never forget Bugis Street. I used to live in a bit of a dive in Kitchener Road so I was within trishaw range for being poured home. Always the same trishaw, he had one broken spoke on the front wheel bent in such a manner so you could hear him coming. I wonder if anyone can remember him.

I don't, I'm afraid. We lived part of the year near Johor Bahru and the rest of the time in Singapore, but out of the city centre in Serangoon. I don't recall any "alcoholic outpourings" - apart from the Singapore Slings at the Long Bar in Raffles - but I do remember taking tea with The Tunku, if you'll pardon the alliteration... Very Happy

Since we've strayed rather far from the OP and given that Rhodesia sent the components of C Squadron SAS and later a battalion of the RAR to Malaya during the Emergency, what do we think of the present goings-on in Zimbabwe (a country fittingly named after a ruin in a jungle)?

I imagine that the terrorist/gangster Mugabe will be sent off to spend the remainder of his days in some cushy exile with access to a good part of his loot rather than receiving what he, and all the other murdering hooligans in other countries (including BG) richly deserve, to whit the confiscation of all "his" property and assets in any part of the world followed by the public application of the good old Mozambique Drill.

Letting people like him - and the BG "businessmen" who surfaced after democracy was allegedly reinstated here - get away with their skin, let alone their loot and bloodied hands, simply sends the wrong message.... Evil or Very Mad
